Welcome!

Sometimes the smallest, simplest moments can be the most precious. These moments of calm and beauty that can be found in the corners of our lives are typically the focus of my work. I love to examine what it is that makes us feel calm and content, safe and secure; what makes us feel connected to ourselves, each other and the world around us.

Using watercolor and colored pencil on paper, I work to capture the softness of a feather, the smoothness of a vase, the sweet, brilliant color of an orange. With considered strokes then a slow building of value, I strive to bring out what makes an ordinary subject extraordinary to remind us that there is beauty all around us if we are only willing to seek it out. I love to embrace the sometimes unpredictable movement of watercolor pigments and emphasize this throughout my process. My approach is gentle, slow and thoughtful, similar to my subject matter. I enjoy the calmness of the creation of my work and hope to convey this feeling through the finished pieces.

Inspired by the play of light and shadow on objects, the curve of a stem, the restful image of a sleeping animal, I strive to distill our busied, noisy, complicated experiences down to small visions of beauty that could be missed but speak out to be recognized and experienced for their own sake.

I use my art process to calm my own my mind and ground myself in moments of regular, yet breathtaking beauty. By focusing so much attention on these subjects, I hope to remind the viewer to do the same; not only while viewing my artwork, but in other moments of their daily lives. Art has the ability to stop us in our tracks, remove us from ourselves for a moment, while grounding us and prompting us to look inside ourselves and connect to something deeper.

Having enjoyed drawing and painting since my early childhood, I am a passionate advocate of the idea that art can transform lives. Art - either through its creation or interaction with the work of others - can inspire us to see the world, and each other, in a different light. I hope to encourage other people of all ages to pursue any desire they have for creating and to nurture that side of themselves.
